01 The Extensiveness and Importance of Industrial Firewalls in Industrial Application Scenarios
Industrial firewalls are specially used in industrial control environments to provide boundary protection between different control areas within industrial control systems. Their comprehensive and in-depth security protection strategies and effective protection can resist attacks on industrial control equipment from internal and external networks, and effectively protect the network security of core production control systems.

02 The difference between industrial firewalls and traditional firewalls
Industrial firewalls are generally deployed in the boundary areas of each independent minimum production unit, support industrial protocol filtering, and generally have a latency of microseconds, adapting to the real-time requirements of industrial networks, and come standard with bypass mechanisms, etc.
Industrial control firewalls and traditional firewalls differ from each other due to the different environments they are in. In comparison, traditional firewalls do not have the following characteristics:
(1) Traditional industrial firewalls do not understand or support industrial control protocols. Industrial networks use dedicated industrial protocols. There are many types of industrial protocols, such as industrial Ethernet protocols and protocols based on serial links (RS232, RS485). These protocols all require dedicated industrial protocol parsing modules to filter and parse them.
(2) The traditional firewall hardware and software design architecture is not suitable for the real-time requirements of industrial networks. Industrial control equipment in industrial network environments has high requirements for real-time transmission.
(3) The hardware design architecture of traditional firewalls is not suitable for harsh industrial environments. Industrial production has very high requirements for the environmental adaptability of network security equipment, especially in many industrial sites, which are even in unattended harsh environments. Firewalls must have predictable performance support and anti-interference level support for industrial production environments, such as wide temperature range and fanless design.
